  MacBook Pro G4 loses memory?

  Hello. I am asking this question for a friend who is not English-savvy.
  He owns a MacBookPro or the equivalent (titanium body) from several years back, a G4 PowerPC engine which he purchased used with 1 GB of ram. Now the computer acuses to have only 768 MB (!), which makes Final Cut PRo uneasy… What could have happened to the missing 256 MB or ram? nobody has opened the computer since there was 1 GB, so all I can imagine is that part of the ram burnt out…! What can be done? Purchase a new ram pair? Is this something that happens normaly after a while?
