Well, it’s my turn to jump on the EX1 bandwagon. I’m considering using my G5 dual 2.7. If I run into problems (being a powerpc), I’m considering a Macbook Pro for portability and the Express34 slot.

    A couple of questions:
Is it fast enough? It seems to have a 4gb limit. Will this be enough for Prores HQ editing? How about native XDCam EX editing?
Is there a way to output to two monitors for editing and simultaneously to a third monitor for actual monitoring? It only has one DVI slot so can I use a Matrox dual head 2go along with an MXO2 (or MXO) for all 3 monitors?

    thanks,

    Rick

Shane, I actually posted this right after reading the previous one you referred to. I guess my question is really about the ability to use the one DVI port to output to dual monitors for editing and to another for monitoring. that wasn’t answered in the previous post.

You can get the Matrox MXO to output from DVI to an Apple display for broadcast monitoring…or SDI and Component out to an actual HD monitor.

Or you can get the Matrox TripleHead2Go to expand the one DVI port to cover two DVI monitors for use as a workspace. But you cannot use the TripleHead2Go to get additional workspace AND monitoring. The device takes the one signal and expands it so that the monitor that it sees is in essence a 3820×1200 monitor.

Can’t do both from one port. But, you can get the TripleHead2Go to add the workspace, then the AJA I/O HD to get your signal to an HD monitor.
