  • MacBook Pro (Early 2011) Storage filled with “System”

My MacBook Pro has been laggy, and I know it’s because I lack space. I went to look at what’s been bogging it down, and I thought it was from the video projects I’ve been saving. However, this is the image I see when I check my storage. It just says “System” and that it’s taking up 532.11 GB of space.

I’ve been upgrading the OSX, so could it be from that? I’m willing to delete what’s necessary, but I don’t know what “System” includes.

    Help?

Click the Manage… button on the right and it will give you a complete breakdown which may our may not agree with the status bar. I have found the status bar to change to something more “accurate” after pressing the Manage… button and letting the system dig into the details.

Hmmm… it’s interesting that Movies is not on that list. I wonder if it’s grouping video files under System by mistake. I would move a few GB of videos onto an external drive and delete them from your internal drive and see if the System calculation goes down by the same amount. (worth a try)

I thought it would be that. Ok, I will try that.

    Thanks!

    Did that solve the issue?

I like to use OmniDiskSweeper to tell me all about the contents of the hard drive
so I can evaluate my usage and know what folders are large.
