According to the Avid System requirements page (https://www.avid.com/products/xpresspro/qualified_mac_notebooks.pdf), iBooks are’nt supported. You’ve also need OS 10.4.10. These lists don’t necessarily mean Avid won’t work on ‘unapproved’ systems, but fixing the issues you describe are more difficult.

I thought that might be the case.

I heard from someone on the Avid forum that if I hold down the G and O keys while re-booting so that some of the applications (3D and something else) don’t load, that I can play back the timeline. Haven’t tried it yet.

I believe you need to hold down L and O (not G and O) when starting Avid, which kicks it into Legacy Overlay.

This may help since you seem to be having problems with your video card. However, you may just have an underpowered machine that’s struggling to run Avid at all.

Let us know if you get it working. I’ve been running Avid on all kinds of unapproved systems lately and I’ve run into some weird problems, but overall it’s worked enough to do the job at hand.

Worst case scenario, roll back to an earlier version of Avid (and roll your OS back to 10.4.10 like Jon said, and watch what version of Quicktime you’re running). Try 4.8.5. It’s requirements weren’t as beefy as 5.7.7.

I tried holding down both G&O and L&O and neither one worked. May have to go back to an earlier version.
