    Hello All,
I’m using a Mac Pro Quad Core 2.66 machine with 4 sticks of 512K memory currently installed (the 1 gig it came with and another gig of 3rd party memory the vendor sold me – minus heat sink). I’m looking at buying another 2 gig from OWC. I know that I have to keep things in matched pairs. The question is, should I opt for 4 512s @ $219, or, to keep everything totally matched up (Apple recommends having all the memory from the same vendor), move up to 4 1 gig for just $300, dispensing with the original sticks. Is this crazy?
    Thanks!

Check with OWC, I think they have a buy back option for your original apple memory that would give you a little cheaper option if you go that rate.

I really trust the OWC guys and I would ask them the question, even though they have something at sake trying to talk you into buying more ram, I would listen to there suggestion. They do offer the same ram as apple is using so you may just want to pull the other 3rd party stuff and add 4GB (look at the price for 2GB sticks) and that would give you 5GB and plenty of room to move up as you can.

Thanks for the response. I’ll talk to OWC. Thing is, I’d really need to ditch all of the 512mg sticks – Apple says to get most out of FCP you need to use matching sticks all around.
