    Hi guys

Sorry if this is a silly question

I’m curious to know if by running an internal soft raid 0, if it reduces the performance of the computer compared to running an external raid , and by how much, would this affect the way Resolve performs in any way? would I even notice a degradation in performance during grading a session?

every now and then I get a slowdown in performance when working, controls start to lag in response a bit, especially when the session has been going for sometime (a couple of hours)

I know that by using the internal scopes you get a performance hit, I’ll be getting ultrascope soon to avoid this, but I thought if I should maybe drift away from internal soft raids if they are also
a contributor to performance hits, or if this slow down is a normal occurrence after sometime, don’t know much about ram cache cleaning, should I be rebooting every time this happens.

anyone else having slight performance degradation over a period of time the computer has been on? no other programs open or running on the background of course

I remember reading that soft raids take a bit of processing power, but that was an old article, may be this is not an issue with later computers

anyway, this was mainly a soft raid question, if anyone knows if they are reliable for performance and consistency

    I use Softraid 4.3 for mac https://www.softraid.com/

    5 x 2tb caviar blacks in raid 0 500mbs read/write

working with DPX sequences and 444 quicktimes

1 x SSD for boot and applications

Cubix desktop 4 with 3 x GTX 285 and Red Rocket, all drivers upto date

12 core 2.93 Ghz MacPro running upto date Lion (OSX 10.7.3)

    24 GB RAM

    thanks in advance

why not to use os raid 0 option ?

softraid is an app that also requires some attention from machine.

i would go with systems raid 0

my first question was if your drives are suspended in 2 hours maybe ?
res pinning will always make machine lag.

also all not needed software would affect performance.

I would turn off power option what suspends drives.
also try os version of raid 0 (backup first)

I use OS X RAID 0 and have not seen any reduces the performance.
    4x2TB Segate.
In Energy Saver “put the hard disk to sleep…” is disable
and “put the computer to sleep…” – is disable

    DaVinci 8.0.1 OS X 10.7
    MacPro 2×2,26 16GB RAID0 8TB
    Nvidia Quadro FX 4800
    Extreme 3D + HDLinkPro
    Tangent WAVE

Yet another reason to disable the drive sleep function is that spin up/down cycles is the point of greatest failures in drives. The less you spin them up the less likely the are to fail. Ironically the more time you have your drives spinning the better off they are.
