    Hi Folks,
I want suggestions on increasing internal storage capacity for a Mac Pro computer. I have been working on a Powerbook G4 laptop for years editing with FCP. I have been using 1 & 2 TB LaCie external harddrives and have had a 33% failure rate on these. So, I am done with LaCie and externals as well as worried about getting good quality reliable & dependable internal harddrives to install in a used CPU I am bidding on—on-line
Suggestions on what brand, size, reliable source,…?
I still plan on getting a RAID backup system, but I want a lot of internal storage space.
    Thanks for your suggestions
    Dan

I have 4 1TB Western Digital Caviar Black drives in my Mac Pro. One as the system drive, and the other 3 in RAID 0 software RAID.

Have had no problems with any of them to date, had them for over a year.

I am working for Hitachi, but I think most on this board would recommend them first anyway. Hitachi’s are the most reliable on the market right now.

We have internal RAID’s from 6TB to 8TB with ONLY Hitachi 2TB drives in our MacPro’s. They are absolutely rocking uncompressed HD unlike products from Seagate and Western Digital that are crap these days. Pop two or three 2TB Hitachi drives inside a WELL FUNCTIONING new MacPro, RAID them together, and you’ll be amazed at the read/write speeds and reliability…

Hitachi has an ES line that is considerbly more expensive than the normal discs but they are classified as Enterprise class discs and should thus be able to handle more than the normal discs. Thats Hitachis argument for the higher price anyway. I will newer use those in my privat Mac Pro, but if Video editing was my bread and butter then hell year I will bye the more expensive drives hoping it will save my ass down the line. Not forgetting backup of cause.

I’m finding DESKSTAR & ULTRASTAR drives on the Hitachi website—some at speeds as high as 15,000. But I don’t know anything about the SATA, SCSI or SAS or FC interface. I don’t have the computer yet—I am placing bids on them, so I probably have to have the CPU first, right? Also, where do you buy these higher end components? I’ve only used MacMall.
And video editing and production IS my bread & butter, so this might be the direction I should go.
