Mac Pro and AE CS4 rendering pains
Below are my hardware and graphics card specs for my Mac Pro.
I’m having a an issue with Adobe After Effects CS4 where my 30 second clip can’t complete a ram preview in 1/2 mode quality. I’ve tried rendering it out as an uncompressed 8 bit quicktime movie, and after about 11-12 seconds the movie looks like a still frame and then jumps to the end (shows that frame). More then 1/2 of the movie looks like a still frame when I try to render out as Export–> Quicktime or using the Render Queue.Can someone please tell me the memory settings in AE CS4 that I should use based on my specs for my computer? I’ve used Final Cut Studio, with loads of effects and neither Motion nor Final Cut Pro gave me any of the issues that I’m facing with CS4 – so think it is a problem with my memory, GPU, and cache settings, but I’m just not sure. I’m used to FCP but I am a newbie when it comes to CS4. I’m trying to finish this project by Wednesday, and I have tried just about everything that I could try. Any help would be very much appreciated.

In general the default settings for Memory and Cache are fine.
I have the same hardware and can preview and render without issue. I suspect there may be an problem with the Composition at the point it goes to a still frame. What happens there? What are the project settings? What source media? DV, HDV, DVCPRO ??
When you use the Render Queue (never use Export!) are you generating an error report? That may provide a clue to the problem.
Its also possible that the application preferences have been corrupted. To reset them hold down the Command + Shift + Option keys as your launch After Effects.
