Running MC 5.5.3 on a 2008 Mac Pro tower with 6GB RAM. It was working fine on Snow Leopard 10.6.6. I checked the version matrix and saw that the update to 10.6.8 was ok. Did the update and now MC won’t open at all. It crashes with a “Bus error” in thread “Main Thread”, at address 0x0 message every time.

In trying to revert to an older version of Snow Leopard, the install disc now is telling me it cannot be installed on this computer, which is odd because it already is, with v10.6.8.

Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Why not uninstall, then upgrade to 5.5.4?

I did try the AVID uninstall/reinstall step, which produced the same results. However, I did finally get it to work by doing the following…

    1. Target boot the HD onto another Mac.
    2. Start up that other Mac with the target drive from the original (problem) Mac as the startup disc.
    3. Reinstall Snow Leopard to the original Mac via this setup.

After I did that, Avid came back up perfectly. I know the version matrix says 10.6.8 and 5.5.3 are compatible, but I found that updating from 10.6.6. to 10.6.8 caused Avid to stop working. The fix was ugly, but I guess it worked!
