MAC OS X Snow leopard cannot be installed on this computer
Hello,
My computer has been running slowly, so I decided to do a disk utility check and this reports an error with the boot disc.
I am trying to boot my computer using the MAC OS X snow leopard disc that comes with MAC, however, when I try to reboot holding down C, it shows the disc but says it cannot install on this computer and I cannot access the disk utility.
It works on an almost identical MAC, but, frustratingly, not on mine.
I am running a 27 inch iMAC OS X 10.6.7.
Anyone have any advice or insight into why this might be happening?
I don’t have any partitions on my disc.

Hi Jessica,
it sounds like you’re trying to use the original install disk that was supplied with a new Mac. Unfortunately those will only run on the exact model they were supplied with and not “similar” models. The reasons for that are plentiful but it comes down to the fact that if you want to run a Disk Utility check from the DVD you’ll have to use the specific CD that came with that model of Mac computer.
An original Snow Leopard OS X Install DVD will work but not one that came bundled with another type of Mac.
You can also run a disk utility check without any kind of DVD by booting into single user mode and running the fsck command.
