Mac OS 10.68 AE CS5 and importing numbered pict sequences
Posted by Scott Novasic on July 29, 2011 at 3:29 amim finishing up a new reel and a few of my files that I still use are in a numbered pict format that now can not seem to be recognized by ae anymore or media converter… i believe it said it was a 32 bit thing vs maybe the need for it to be 64? im not sure…. please tell me that I dont have to manually go and change a few thousand picts into something else just to get the animation frames into AE
not an area after all these years I have had issues with….

July 29, 2011 at 5:17 amScott, it seems you’ll need to batch convert the PICTs in Photoshop.
https://forums.macworld.com/index.php?/topic/121419-preview-cant-open-pict-files/
“The PICT type was formally deprecated with the release of 10.4, nearly 5 years ago. As of 10.6, applications have to go out of their way to receive PICT data on the clipboard, because the system notices it and provides a translation to another format that’s given a higher priority as far as the receiving app is concerned.”

July 29, 2011 at 2:04 pmI’m not sure that Photoshop will read the PICTs, anyway. I use Lemkesoft GraphicConverter for this.
If you haven’t already, now is the time to migrate away from PICT sequences.

July 29, 2011 at 2:23 pmPhotoshop CS4 will read the picts, (I still keep old versions around).
You can set up an action and bath process in PS.

Good to know!
[Brian Charles] “You can set up an action and bath process in PS.”
If PS CS4 can read them, I’d assume that PICTs should work with the Image Processor script [link]. That could save the trouble of making the action. GraphicConverter should be significantly faster, though, as it does all the calculation directly, without the delay of a scripted host application.
If you’ve got Photoshop Extended CS4, you should also be able to import the image sequence [link] and export a video [link].

July 31, 2011 at 6:00 amgraphics converter… and YES… LOL i have NOT rendered these sequences in over 10 years… however.. I am a pretty diligent archiver and a ‘few’ of my older animations ‘still make the cut’ on my rather complex demo reel… it never occurred to me that they would somehow become unreadable in the future so I never converted them…. just kept them in their folders… there are only really 3 or 4 things tops that this relates too… but important none the less… one of the files… get ready… drum roll please… is from the old 3d app infini-d 3d LOL but ill NEVER reveal which one it is… it still holds up today and shows a tiny bit of a look I dont have on my reel… im a “generalist” so my reel tends to be pretty dense with as much variety and techniques I can fit… that of course are of a quality level I care to display…
thanks all again…
