Mac Memory Allocation with After Effects
Hi,
I recently added more memory to my powerbook (1.25GHz, OS X 10.3.9 now with 1.25G memory) and was hoping that the new memory would speed up the Exporting/Make movie in After Effects. However, when I was exporting a file I brought up the activity monitor as it seem as though the render was rather slow, and it showed that up to 800Mb of the memory was inactive! Does anyone know if I can use this new memory to speed up the export times or shold it be automatic or do I have to assign it somehow? I would be very greatful to anyone who could suggest something!

From what I understand, which isn’t much… AE rendering is very processor intensive, not necessarily ram intensive. If speeding up rendering is of utmost importance, I suggest hooking up a network render farm. Notebooks, yes even Powerbooks, are not the best standalone renderers.
