Mac formatted drives with windows for PP
Posted by Ron Pestes on July 24, 2011 at 10:40 pmAll my drives are formatted for the Mac. Can I still use them when I get a Windows computer for Premiere Pro or will I have problems?

July 25, 2011 at 12:26 amThat looks good. Will I still have the same speed for editing?

July 25, 2011 at 2:22 pmSince there is intermediate software doing a “conversion” of file I/O, my guess is you will not get the same speed for editing.

July 25, 2011 at 5:54 pmAnother vote for MacDrive…
I’m not sure if it slows anything down or not as it allows Windows to read the drive format…the files are the same.
I typically use it for transfer drives and get my media onto my edit drives…if MacDrive allows you to read your Mac format media drives, you may or may not see a noticeable response difference, though I’d be curious what your experience is when you get that far…

July 26, 2011 at 7:30 pmBased on personal experience, there is no speed difference when editing on a Windows platform while accessing media from Mac formatted drives using Macdrive.

Thanks Adrian…I suspected that might be the case, but I have no experience using Mac Drive that way.
Excellent news.

Good to know MacDrive is not a speed-sucker. I have only used it for basic transfers; it was a lifesaver at times.-jeff
