We have a G4 867 that is used in a FCP off-line editing suite. We are a having problems transferring files from this computer to another computer. We have several flash drives and 20GB smart disks that we use to move files. When they are hooked to this computer the transfer rate is very slow. It take 3 minutes just to transfer 100mg of files. Every other MAC and PC uses the disks OK and tranfers the data fast.
The computer has no problems with any fire wire drives, but I hate using them because they need power and you need to move the power supply; it is pain if you are moving files 10 times a day. Anybody see this problem with an older MAC?

It’s probably because it’s only capable of USB 1.0, and all your other Macs use USB 2.0.

How about getting a bus-powered FW drive?

If your computers are close by, connect them via gigabit ethernet.

you can get a long firewire cable, and boot the g4 into target mode? restart and hold “T”
