    Hi,

I wonder whether anybody else has seen these error messages.

I’m encountering lots of “out of memory” and “exception, what:St9bad_alloc” errors and then freezes on a client’s imac (I know!). Avid support suggested it was to do with firewire drives but I’ve copied the media onto an internal SATA raid on my MacPro and tried running the project on that and am having the same problems. I also read somewhere about possible display size issues so I’ve tried running on one 1920×1200 24in monitor, again with no improvement.

I should add that I tried running the project on an older G5 Tower running 2.8 on Tiger and didn’t have the errors and crashing although it was of course significantly slower.

    Hope someone can help,
    Thanks

    spes are:

    imac 3.06 core 2 Duo
    4GB Ram
    OSX 10.5.5
    QT 7.5.5
    MC 3.0.5
    FW800 drives with media on

    AND

    Macpro (2008) 2x Quad core 2.8 Ghz
    8GB Ram
    GeForce 8800GT 512MB
    OS 10.5.5
    QT7.5.5
    MC 3.0.5
    internal SATA RAID0 3TB

    Rob,

Since “you know,” then we don’t need to tell ya that the iMac specs are not what is recommended. Even though your processor speed and RAM are all beefy enough, and you have newer drivers, is the card from the GeForce family?

    Hi Joe,

believe me I’ve been through those specs a good deal. Yes the imac does have GeForce – 8800GS, which I believe is the same as the MacPro GT in all but name.

I’m really not sure why producers think they can set up edit suites, they don’t just grab a handycam and thrust it into the cameraman’s arms and say “here you go” yet increasingly we have to put up with homespun edit rooms. However in this case as I mentioned with the software installed on a more pro machine with different storage the same problems occur – although not as frequently. Also you’ll note that the earlier software didn’t exhibit these problems so despite my unhappiness with having to work on a ‘home’ computer I find it difficult to lay the blame wholly at the imac’s door.

I have also received an email from AVID tech support saying that there have been ‘issues’ with memory usage and effects and that a patch is coming which they recommend I install.

    Rob
