Can anyone tell me if I could live with a large but very slow 4200 rpm internal boot drive? I use laptop mostly for editing but need a lot of space for the new F.C.P. and numerous other programs.
    Thanks!!!!

The speed of the internal drive is really nothing to fret over. You aren’t going to store media on it, so if it is 4200RPM or 7200RPM, it doesn’t really matter. All you are storing on it are applications. And the difference in speed is not something you’ll see. Because loading application and moving files doesn’t require all that much drive speed.

You might see a change in boot speed (I certainly do) if that matters to you. I hit the button and the thing starts up almost instantly. It’s worth it to me b/c I’m impatient.

I know, I know, patience is a virtue.

I guess I’m just a middle of the road guy, for my laptops I normally get 5400 rpm drive for the extra space but afraid the 4200 would be too slow. Not really based on anything, just want I buy.

I know I can work with simple DV job captured to my internal when I’m in a pitch or ext bus powered 5400 FW drives but I don’t know if the 4200 would work for that.
