M100HD crashing on HD playback
Posted by Bobby Mosaedi on February 2, 2006 at 8:50 pmok… finally got my xserve raid striped as RAID50, i dont have a deck to digitize footage as of yet, but i did do an after effects render 1920x1080i M100HD 8bit codec. it imports instantly into my bin and as soon as it plays 2-3 seconds i get a media100 unrecoverable error and it completely freaks out.
could it be my render that has the issue? i am going to render something out 10 bit but i m sure that wont help either. cant figure out if it is the media100, the render, or the drives. need help!

February 2, 2006 at 10:50 pmI would guess that your RAID is not set up correctly. In RAID admin, did you turn on all the caches? They speed up things quite a lot.

February 2, 2006 at 11:13 pmunder the “performance” menu in the “settings” menu, i have controller write cach turned on, host cache flushing,, and drive write caching. steady streaming mode is not checked. and the read prefetch is set to 8 stripes (512 KB/disk)

February 3, 2006 at 12:10 ami deleted the raid from software utility and redid it again as concatenated set. still crashes. the error message im getting is the unrecoverable dialog, -19111, bla bla bla i need to tell this to media 100 tomorrow. gosh this is so frustrating.

February 3, 2006 at 12:57 amergh. now back to striped RAID. the weird thing is, i can scrub back and forth quite quickly on an 8 second clip, but when i push spacebar to play timeline or clip, it will stutter like it ran out of buffer and then crashes… not failing the media100 hd test either.
gosh this is reallly frustrating. after spending all this money. media100, my my my. i still have a convergent design box sitting here collecting dust that media100 fails to work with, and now i cannot get these drives to work. sheesh. this used to happen with the older media 100s and scsi drives back in the 3.0 days.

February 3, 2006 at 4:57 pmOK, back to the basics… i put the media100 HDX card on lot 1 and 2 in the G5 and the fibre channel card in slot three. that got rid of the glitching and crashing… still working on the real-time playback

February 3, 2006 at 5:19 pmThe HDx board should go into slot 2+3 of the G5, and the FC card in slot 4 (the one that is farthest away from the graphics card). What FC card do you use? Do you use the latest drivers for the FC card?
If you still have performance problems on your XServe RAID, try downgrading its firmware to 1.32/1.26, which is included in this updater, I think. When we upgraded the RAID firmware to 1.5 we had all kind of performance problems that were fixed by downgrading to 1.32/1.26 again. -

February 3, 2006 at 6:18 pmthanks floh,
i bought the LSI logic card from apple with apple packaging and it also came with cables. i cannot acquire more than 25 seconds of video without the system telling me recording difficulties in 8bit or 10bit. i will try the downgrade now. will it also downgrade the RAID admin application? -
