  • M100 HD random crashing with Version 10.1.1

    Just finished a two-week edit using M100 HD. OS X 10.3.8, M100 HD version 10.1.1., Dual 2.5 G5, 4 gigs RAM.

Really interesting (and really irritating) crashes with M100 HD: the program would just… disappear. No message stating “I’m about to crash, would you like to save?”, although there were some of those. It’s the other crashes: just… *poof*… everything suddenly vaporizes and I’m staring at the desktop.

All footage on this project was sourced from Betacam through the analog component cable. 250-300kb, using the M100i compressor. Mostly using the A-B video tracks, occasionally using two additional tracks for titles (I rendered all titles, even though they seemed to play fine real time).

Ideas? Any one else experiencing anything like this? I understand that some issues have cropped up from version 10.0 to 10.1.1, but I didn’t do much editing with 10.0, and quickly upgraded because I needed the VOUT feature of 10.1.1.

Yes, this is a known problem, probably related to trimming clips in the timeline. The problem with it is that it is not easy to reproduce, it will simply happen random during editing. I think this probably is going to be fixed in the next release.

I too have been having unexpected crashes and I am also using Beta-SP source material in component, in Media100i mode. One of the most common crashes is after re-acquiring footage. If there is any problem, and the line item turns red (which it seems to like doing for no obvious reason), the whole system crashes.

I’m just assuming that this problem is not isolated to my system. I’m using Media100HD 10.1 on a 2-gig G5, OSX 10.3.7 with 2.5 Gig ram.

I have been told that the max ram that we can have installed is 2GB. That was true with M100 i as well. The extra ram would crash the system, when removed the crashes stopped.

I currently have 2GB installed and am not having those kind of crashes but want to add more ram if that is not the problem..

Thanks, that’s an interesting possibility. I wonder what the official M100HD position is on ram?
