Lyrics Video Movie credits style
Hi,
i’m trying to create lyrics video for local band. I like this tehnique like movie credits, The Weeknd – Die for you. What techique did they use for correct timing and smooth roll of the text. I tryed to paste all the lyrics in one layer and it goes out of sync. I was wondering if i break text in separate layers, but then i don’t have that Smooth flow anymore. Any hints, tips what should i do?

It will be trial and error on the scroll speed. Layer markers (with comments for each line of lyrics) will be extremely useful, on the audio layer, so you can visually ‘see’ at what point on the timeline the words should appear.
Your given example, with small text, gets a lot of cushioning as there are many lyrics on-screen at the same time. For this type of scrolling technique use similar font sizes.
If you choose to chop up your lyrics there’s a handy expression that will smoothly auto-scroll the text layers:
crawlspeed = 2; value-[0,crawlspeed*timeToFrames(time)]
Apply to the Position property of your text layers.
This way, all your separate text layers will animate at the same speed.

Simon’s right. Worth adding why one layer drifts: a constant crawl runs at a fixed rate and nobody sings at one. The Weeknd version survives it because there’s enough text on screen to hide the drift.
To lock it properly, keyframe the position at the real line times and use the crawl expression only between them.
Either way you still build that marker list by ear. That part can be generated. I make lyric videos, got sick of doing it, built LyriSync (lyrisync.com). Give it the track and your lyrics and its AE import drops comp markers in with each line as the comment. Won’t help with the scroll, that’s Simon’s expression.
