  • LUT Buddy won’t install for CC2015?

Posted by Tl Westgate on September 24, 2015 at 6:40 pm

We have new Sony FS7s and I would like to key them in AE. There doesn’t seem to be a way to read the Slog or use any LUTs. I tried installing LUT Buddy from Red Giant but it never shows up in the Effects & Presets list. I clicked on every software package it listed to no avail.

    Any guidance?

make sure it’s in the right folder.
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Common\Plug-ins\7.0\MediaCore\Magic Bullet LUT Buddy\*.*

also, AE has a LUT effect already in there called apply color LUT

That would be easy at home, as I’m a Windows guy and know how to navigate the folder structures. But this is at work on a Mac. I’ve asked the office Mac boi where the files could have installed to but we can’t find them anywhere. It’s like LUT Buddy “installs” but not really.

Also, the Apply Color LUT effect tried to read a LUT file, which I don’t have.

    for mac try:
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-Ins/7.0/MediaCore/Magic Bullet LUT Buddy

can you search your drive for LUT Buddy-64.aex ?

are you trying to create a LUT from scratch with LUT buddy or do you need one for a certain camera?

I checked out that folder and there is no folder for LUT Buddy. Odd.

And like I said in the original post, I’m trying to load an s-log for a Sony FS7.

    Thanks, close but no cigar.

Those instructions say to alter the permissions on the folder MG software creates. Which is my specific problem, it creates no folders. I go to:

    MacHD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/CS#/MediaCore/

And there are no MB folders for LUT Buddy. I have no folder to change permissions on.

    1. try transcoding to another intraframe codec or image sequence before importing into AE using mpegstreamclip
    2. update gfx drivers
    3. remove any ffmpeg filters, update quicktime, prores etc.
    4. don’t overclock gfx card
    5. purge all in AE

this post should be in another thread, if you create a new thread, I can cut and delete this post and you’ll get a lot more help from other people as well as it will be more visible.
