We’ve recently received a number of inquiries for LTO 4 drives that support LTFS. While we have always posted that LTFS is ONLY available on LTO-5 and LTO-6 drives, apparently a recent press release from Cache-A has confused users (it was quoted by 3 of the callers) by stating that their Simul-Copy tech allows the creation of simultaneous TAR or LTFS tapes on their LTO-4, LTO-5 or LTO-6 drives.

While I hope that Tom and crew sees this and updates their marketing message about Simul-Copy, please be clear that even Cache-A can’t create LTFS tapes on an LTO-4 tape drive :).

You are correct Tim, LTFS does not work on LTO-4, never has, never will.

I found the release in question and it stated:
Simul-Copy harnesses advanced replication technology developed by Cache-A. It enables users to simultaneously make multiple tar or LTFS LTO-tapes copies, rather than sequential copies, at close to the same speed as a single copy. It works with Cache-A’s LTO-4, LTO-5 and latest LTO-6 generation appliances.

I can understand why someone could parse that to mean we are claiming LTFS on LTO-4, but what we should have communicated is that Simul-Copy works on LTO-4 (tar only) and on LTO-5 and LTO-6 (tar or LFTS).

We apologize for any confusion created.
