We are having problems capturing all the tapes we have in the LP mode. When we try to capture them, they are dropping frames every few seconds. The majority of the tapes we have in tapes in LP. How can we caputure and edit all of the tapes we have in LP? We are using Final Cut Pro 5, a Canon XL2 and an Apple Mac OS X.
    Thank you,,

Unfortunately, LP mode is something that oftentimes can only be played back reliably by the machine that recorded it. Even if the machine can play it back, it is prone to higher rates of dropouts because of the recording method used in the camera. It’s the nature of the beast. It’s not considered “professional”, so most pro decks and NLEs are not made to play nicely with LP.

You might be better off playing the LP tapes from the same camera that recorded them to SP and capturing from the SP dubs.

The camera I recorded on was the Canon XL2 and the camera I am trying to download off of is the Canon XL2. It is the same model I shot on only it is not the same camera. We have them marked as camera 1 & 2 but they are the exact same model type. So…are you saying I have to download the video of the exact same camera I shot on or the same camera model?

If you are having problems, then that would be the first thing to try. LP mode is not reliable.

So…the hundred or so tapes I taped in LP…I will be unable to do anything with them…or are you saying I need to use the exact same camera even though the two cameras we use are the exact same make and model?
