    Hi All,

I’ve made a simple lower third in Vegas, a bar slides in from the left followed by a line of text for a caption of that segment. What I’d like to do is insert that .veg file of the lower third into my main timeline several times, but be able to change the text for each different segment. I just don’t see a way to do this, as it just instances the same .veg file multiple times. The only thing I can think of is to copy the two tracks from the lower thirds project into my main one and make multiple separate copies, and change the text in each copy. Is this the only way to do what I’m looking for? What my original idea was, was to be able to use the .veg file, insert it where I needed it and just edit the line of text. Move to the next segment and repeat. Can I make a template of some kind that would let me do this? Thanks in advance for the help.

Piece ‘O Cake: Rather than try to insert a .veg, go to that original .veg and just render it with an alpha channel (or recreate it in AE or Fusion). Then, insert it as just a video clip (sorry, “event”) so that all you’re changing is the overlayed text itself.

If you can live without the moving text, you can make the veg file of the lower-thirds background and put the changing text in a track above the track containing the veg file. I do this often and I just fade-in/out the text at the same time as the graphic. Here’s an example: https://vimeo.com/72795849

Steve: Why would he have to “live without the moving text” with your method? Could he not do that with an animation effect on his separated text track?

Thanks for the replies. Here’s what I’ve started doing. Copied the two tracks from the lower third .veg project to the main project. Placed them in the top two tracks. Copied the sliding black bar where I needed, all referencing the original one, then copied the text event several times over the lower third bar, making new copies each time and then changing the text. This seems to work the best and is the simplest. Thanks for everyone’s help and suggestions.

Was just about to recommend you do that Dale, of making
new copies of the source media as you go along.

‘Why would he have to “live without the moving text” with your method?’

Just to save time. I may have ten to twenty lower-thirds in a video and I personally find moving text to be an annoyance as well as time consuming.

Its far more time consuming creating it somewhere else, then
    dropping it in Vegas.
