  • Lower frame rates?

Posted by Robin Probyn on May 3, 2006 at 2:25 pm

    Hi there

Shooting with varicam at the moment at 59.94 fps. When I changed the frame frate to 6,there was a warning in brackets in the menu (12!) seemed it didnt want to go lower than 12 fps.I had also changed something in the menu,s to allow the frame rate to go lower than 12,it was set at 60-12.

Any ideas…also cant still work out how to put user info into user bit,I,ve also in the menu set this for user.Only time I can change it is when the switch is at SET in the side panel,as soon as its back to Rec Run,it changes to god only knows what.I know part is the frame rate so I see a 59 in there.

    Thanks

    Redflag;

Go to MAIN MENU #2, then to FRAME MODE, then choose 12-60 or 4-60. In your case you need 4-60.
See page 104 of the manual for details. PDF can be found here https://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/AJHDC27HP.PDF

We added the 12-60 mode for easy hand held use, the 4-60 requires the use of a tripod as it makes focusing / tracking objects very hard due to the very slow viewfinder update rates at 4fps.

    Good luck!

    Thanks

I had done that.I changed the frame rate from a user menu, not that main menu 2,would that have made a difference.

Would you have any idea about the UB setting.I can set it when the SET button on the side panel is on,but when I put that switch back dowm to REC RUN it all changes?

    Thanks again

    Redlag:

The TC UBs in the VariCam are used to record the frame rate information such as frame rate, 59.94/60.00 and the active frame cadence info. If you plan ANY offspeed shooting do NOT use or mess with those UBs, they are needed to tell FCP what frame rate the camera was shoting at. If you negate the TC UB you will force FCP to work at 60fps regardless of what you shot!

    Cheers,

Ok thanks I didnt try to change any of those last digits.I use the UB on Sony camera,s really only for roll numbers that go over 23. ie More than the TC can deal with.
I,ve used varicam a few times now and feel I know pretty much how to operate the beast…but the UB setting,or non setting in this case has always been a complete mystery to me.I see no logic in how to set roll numbers.
There must be a way… or not…I mean I write it on the tape box but got used to putting it on the UB too,a pretty easy task with the Sony.

    Any thoughts?
