    Hi!

Anyone know what the “Premier is running low on memory…save your work and proceed with caution” warning is all about?

I do a fresh boot, run only Premier with a 12 minute project loaded that doesn’t have that many effects going on, and I still get this every 4-5 hours of working.

My machine is audio/video only, Quad core, 4 megs memory, nothing running in the background, not internet/network connected and I don’t understand why I’d get this. Running Win XP Pro.

    Thanks.

Any 32 bit operating system has a severe RAM usage limitation. Adobe software uses huge amounts of RAM.

Even though you have 4 gigs in the machine, you only use about 2.5…

CS4 just really needs a 64 bit OS and more RAM to really run optimally…

I’d open my task manager on the performance tab and monitor the paging file size. there is usually a point that’s fairly predictable when this will happen, and sometimes you can get some RAM back by simply clicking outside of PPro and clicking back in…but a 64 bit OS and more RAM is still the way to go.

    Thanks Tim,

I just posted (vented) a “Will video editing on a PC every truly work” question in response to your suggestion.

Maybe you can answer the couple of questions I posted there.

I’m using CS3, but I’m sure you are correct regardless of the version.

When you say I can look at the paging file, do you mean I should check it’s size when I get this message, so that in the future I can look at it and determine if I’m getting close?

Also, when you say “click outside of Prem”, do you mean close it and reopen it? Would rebooting (hard boot?) help?

    Thanks.
