November 18, 2008 at 1:42 pmWell, I first took out the extra 4GB RAM I was running and then exported out as suggested rather that Export to Encore. Also after the 3rd or 4th time of it hanging, I noticed it was at the same spot so I relogged the tape. After doing all this, things went fine. So THANKS to all for the help.

November 18, 2008 at 3:00 pmYou need to replace that RAM…
Even though you computer can’t use it all, you want to have RAM modules available in pairs for best speed and runnability. Maxing out RAM in one slot isn’t a good way to run a machine.

November 18, 2008 at 6:04 pmI was running 4 identical 2GB RAM stick mistakenly thinking Vista 32bit would use them all. I just pull 2 sticks and set them aside for use later.

December 3, 2008 at 1:58 pmSo after all this I did a clean install with 4GB RAM and life is working smoothly now. Must have been some small gremlin or toad in the system…
Thanks to all for the time and help.
Fumbling my way happily thru the world of HD…
