Installed FCP6 on my new 8core… I’m burnin it up now! Just launched compressor3 and was afraid it would be another learning curve because it’s changed so much but no, it was super intuitive and there are so many options! Plus, upon sending the batch job, it asks you if you want to cluster computers. Wow! The only other place I have FCP6 installed so far is on my macbookpro which I left at home, otherwise I would have tried this out. Way cool!

You’re gonna especially love it on that octo… Compressor 3 will take advantage of all of those cores… H.264 can be encoded at 3 times speed. i.e. 9 minute show, 3 minute encode… yummy!

The only thing I’m bummed about is that I thought you were going to be able to encode to .flv from compressor… I don’t see that option. Plus I swear it was said that would encode to a bunch of other settings to like for blu ray & stuff. Was I hearing things??

FLV Video is courtesy of the Telestream Episode Pro plug-in – which means if you buy Episode Pro, you’ll have presets in Compressor – so it’s only a $900 plug-in to create Flash Video!!! Yeah, pretty misleading for the Apple folks to advertise FLV support. I called them on it at NAB, and they kind of chuckled – “Yeah, well…”

Also – regarding Blu-Ray – at NAB, the poor Apple schmoe in charge of showing DVD SP 4 was getting HAMMERED by folks wondering about Blu-Ray. Officially, FCS2 is not supporting Blu-Ray, but from hearing the discussions at NAB, DVD-SP 5 (with BR support) is probably sitting on a server in Cupertino, just waiting to be compiled and released – but techno-politics in the grander scheme of things (HD-DVD / BR) is keeping it from us – for now, at least…
