I have had this problem in the past but it seems to be getting worse/happening more often. Whenever I am in trim mode in FCP the audio sometimes go berserk around the trim point. It blasts a bunch of VERY LOUD digital noise out of my speakers and doesn’t stop until I hit the space bar to stop playback. I then try to trim again and it acts normal. It doesn’t happen on a regular basis but it scares me to death every time it does it. Maybe it is a problem with audio output on my Blackmagic card?

Toggle the sound Output preferences in your System Preferences (not the Blackmagic PrefPane…the System PrefPane). I was getting similar sounds when I first installed the drivers, this fixed it.

The audio likely goes through some command in the software. That is a mode you enter… sort of like an applet. so ask BM about this… I can say I don’t have the problem with AJA or Matrox products I have around here.
