    Hello all,

This is a problem that probably has a million possible explanations, but I’ll describe it anyway and pray for a single answer!

    System Setup:

    MacBook Pro 15″, 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD, OSX 10.95
Adobe Premiere Pro CC (2014.1 release)
Adobe After Effects CC (2014.1 release)
All media and project files stored on external drive (Touro)

I was using Premiere Pro CC on a project and the edit was about 80% complete. I then updated Premiere Pro CC to the latest 2014.1 release. I opened my project file in the 2014.1 release and as usual with a new release, it required a new version of the project file to be created. I continued working on this new project file without any problems. I then began adding After Effects comps into the project. I then exported 6 timelines into an ‘exports’ folder in the external hard drive and uploaded them to Vimeo. No problems so far.

I then went to eject the external drive and it wouldn’t. I closed down all applications and all opened windows and it still wouldn’t eject. I then took a risk and skipped the ‘eject’ stage and just pulled the USB cord out. Yes, I know I shouldn’t have, but I’ve never had a problem like this before.

After this, I plugged the drive into another computer and saw that the project file for the latest 2014 release had vanished. Not only that, but the ‘exports’ folder I created also vanished, along with all the videos I had exported earlier. No project files in Premiere Pro Auto Save folder could be seen from the 2014 release. Basically, everything I did after installing and using the latest 2014 release for Premiere and AE no longer exists.

I have feeling that this could be both a hardware and software issue. I can understand if the files are corrupted and won’t open because I was hasty in unplugging the hard drive. But to vanish altogether is a new thing for me.

If anyone has any explanations or suggestions on how I can retrieve any of this lost work, it would be greatly appreciated.

Could you check to see if your project files defaulted to the documents / adobe folder after you installed the new version.
