Ok I’m not that fluent in Mac. I have a user who works on a Quad G5. 10.4 Somehow he has lost his system drive. The computer boots and runs fine but the Hard Drive is not on the desktop anymore. How can I get it back for him?

    hello…

get a finder window in the foreground and go to finder -> preferences – probably somehow the setting to show it on the desktop got unchecked…

That is checked. Here’s some more strange stuff. The second hard drive shows up fine.

I found a way to fix the problem. It was hidden. I got this info from macrumors.com

    Using FileBuddy from macupdate.com
    1. Enable administrator privileges
    2. File -> Get Info -> Choose -> Macintosh HD (default selection)
    3. Uncheck the box on the left which should be ticked as invisible
    4. Do a finder search for a file named “com.apple.sidebarlists.plist” (you will need to activate the search to include hidden system files, delete this file)
    5. Reboot your computer.

I did NOT need to do step 4.
