  • Lost Resolution Coming From Illustrator

Posted by Planetpopx on August 12, 2007 at 2:24 am

This is probably a pretty basic question – but I am fairly new to these programs:

I created a simple Adobe Illustrator file which includes a few brush strokes and some simple fonts. I can zoom in and the resolution remains perfect.

But – when I import this into After Effects the resolution is lost. I’ve tried playing around with all of the of the different saving/importing options – yet can not seem to solve this problem.

Any advice would be HUGELY appreciated.

You need to turn on your “Continuosly Rasterize” switch for that layer. Its the switch directly to the right of the Hide shy layers switch and looks like a little sun shape.

    Hmm…..

That does not seem to work either.

I’ve tried importing the file as footage – and a composition – but neither option seems to make a difference. It is still highly pixelated. Throwing the rasterize button does seem to improve the picture a little – but it is still not 100%.

make sure you don’t have PAR correction turned on in the comp window.

This doesn’t seem to make a difference.

Let me ask you – should i ever expect the resolution to be perfect? IT is perfect in Illustrator – but is this simply too much to ask of After Effects?

Are my expectation too high? Or should Illustrator files truly translate into AE perfectly?

I suppose i can compensate by creating larger AI files to start with – and creating larger compositions in AE – but should I really have to go through these contortions?

    The problem is solved.

It would appear the the AI file will pixelate when you ZOOM in – in the composition window. That was dumb of me.

When you SCALE the artwork itself it remains crisp.

    I apologize.

No need to apologize… glad you figured it out. And you gave me another point on my checklist of “Stuff that can go wrong”!
