    hi
    vegas9, vista.
we have been working on a project on one machine, made a mirror of the whole clip store on an external drive, then tried to open the project on another machine from that drive. vegas cant find the clips. if we point it to a missing clip on the external drive, it will load it, but doesnt learn that that is the right path, and so cannot find the next clip, or any of them.

    any one experienced this problem?

    thanks

Vegas stores the absolute path to media including drive letter in it’s project file. If you are going to work with external drives you must ensure that the drive shows up as the same letter on each PC that needs to us it.

Did you copy the project onto the same drive as the original PC? In other words, you have a project on C: you copy it to external D:, then you take the drive to another PC where it is also the D: drive, but that’s not enough. You have to copy the project files back to C: where they originated.

In other words, if you want to work on an external drive, then create the project on the external drive and work on the external drive on BOTH PC’s. If you want to work on a local drive and then copy to an external drive, you have to copy back to a local on the other PC so that the original paths stay the same.

Unfortunately, I’ve experienced this problem with Vegas 9 on Vista64 (where I also have v8 installed, which doesn’t have this problem). v9 also occasionally just loses the link to media files while I’m editing. Bumpy road in v9 right now.
