What are the FIN files? About halfway through many of my projects, I end up having a FIN file go missing. It really doesn’t impact anything other than I have to hit cancel when it tries to find them as I open the project. I’m just curious as to why they could be showing up as missing and how I can get rid of the alerts and what they do. I have one program that it searches for ten FIN files and it’s a pain to open.

These are render files and there has been a long-standing problem with FCP’s render manager knowing what to throw away and when.
You’ve probably got these files as parts of nests or reference movies. FCP thinks they’re no longer needed since it ha sno knowledge of any reference movies you may have exported. Nor can it see upstream to some nests.
Only cure is to export your nests and precomps as self-contained movies.

If you’re not looking at parts of nests or references, you’re seeing parts of sequences you may have deleted or no longer need. Maybe drafts or rough cuts. Delete the sequences if you don’t need them any longer.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

Thanks for the info. I figured as much. I do a lot of nesting and burying of different media and supposed something like that was happening.

I have found that I get the missing FIN files when I go to export QT movies.
Dumping all render files and rerendering solves issues, but who has the time for that.
Usually just dumping the “Render files in undo queue” will solve the issue (for me at least)
