  • Lost audio when I import a QT file into Avid

    Hi,

I’ve been using FCP and now want to learn Avid Xpress DV and I want to import into Avid the material I captured into FCP as Quicktime files.

I’ve found that Avid can’t import the QT files with all the audio tracks intact. I get video ok and 1 out of 2 audio tracks ok.

I can’t find any settings which affect this — can anyone help?

It’s a bit depressing if Avid can’t open a regular QT file.

    FCP5, and Avid Xpress 4.6

    Thanks for any advice

Well, I guess that’s something else Avid sucks at…

But seriously folks, have you looked in the options part of the dialog box? I think (I’m not in front of an Avid right now) there are options to select or deselect audio.

Also, what version of QT are you using? Avid 4.6 will not work well with QT 7.X, and there are all sorts of isues this causes.

Check out your audio project settings, and figure out what sample rate your QT file is. If you try to bring in mismatched audio sample rates, you’ll have issues as well…

If the sample rate of the audio in the Quicktime movie doesn’t match the sample rate of your project (usually 48KHz), one of two things will happen depending on which system you have:

    1. Avid will ask you if you want to sample rate convert the incoming import (not all Avid software supports this), or

    2. Avid will import the Quicktime as is, in which case the audio is useless.

You might be able to change the sample rate of the Quicktime movie in another application.

    Hi

    I’m using QT 7.0.4 — I’ve checked the sample rates and they’re identical — 48khz 16 bit — a standard DV PAL capture.

Is this just a glitch in Avid Xpress DV 4.6?!

thanks for the help — I guess I’ll have to re-capture material in order to use Avid. It should be easier than this!

As I said in my first post, 4.6 is not compatible with QT7.X… You need to revert back to the proper version of quicktime. Then try importing audio….
