I see the word lossless codec used along with Lagirith and Huffyview. How do these work with Vegas? Is there a protocol to use them or rules to follow? Are they automatic once downloaded?

Both Lagarith and HuffYUV are Video For Windows (VFW) codecs and are supported by the AVI container. You will need to make templates for then under the Video for Windows (*.AVI) render type. Just press the Custom… button and select either of these two codecs in the Video Format dropdown.

This is what my list looks like for the VFW codecs that I have installed:

Thanks John, that was painless enough. Now to figure out what to do with it, lol. Is the CineForm in the list in Vegas 10 the one we read so much about?

Cineform is a great intermediate format, great quality in a smaller file size than the Sony YUV codec but it doesn’t come with last few versions of Vegas, where the Sony YUV codec does.

CineForm was shipped with Vegas 6, 7, and Pro 8. Sony stopped shipping it with version 9 & 10. So if you have 6 thru 8 you will have CineForm. Otherwise you will have to buy CineForm NeoScene for $99 USD. Well worth the price if you are working in HD. Especially if you use multiple programs like Vegas Pro and After Effects.
