  • loss of sharpness when reversing a 720p clip

I’m trying to get some more out of some footage by playing some clips in reverse. But I’m noticing it looks slightly blurred after I render. The footage is 720p23.98. Is this the reality of reversing video? Even when it’s progressive frame? Or is this simply a FCP5 short coming? Any suggestions?

Have you checked back out through your HD monitor, because FCP’s preview is often low rez.

Yes, I’m viewing full res through my Decklink system (HD Pro card -> HDLink -> Apple 20″ Cinema).

Duh, I just discovered the problem. Frame blending had been on by default. Funny that it kicks in even when the speed hasn’t changed. Now it looks sharp.

Sorry to waste your time. thanks, Graeme.
