I have some projects I did in Vegas 4. When I open them in Vegas 7 and start them anyplace on the time line, they play but after just a few words the audio cuts out. The same thing happens when I open and attempt to play DVD-A1 projects using DVD-A4. Any ideas? Thanks. Michael

That’s really strange. What type of media? Can you drop the same media into a new project and does it play correctly? The jump from Vegas 4 to Vegas 7 is quite large but the media should still play.

The original film came from a digital camera. Into the computer as avi, and produced in Vegas 4. Now when I open up the veg file produced in Vegas 4, using Vegas 7 I lose the audio, except for the first few words…like it’s trying to play audio, but stops. When I was working with the original film in Vegas 4, I produced an mpeg 1 video. Now if I bring that mpeg 1 video produced with vegas 4, into the timeline of vegas 7, it shows audio, it starts to play but the audio drops out after a word or two. ??

What codec does the AVI file use? Check the event properties in Vegas to see (right-click Properties | Media | Format on both the video and adudio) or use GSpot.

mpeg 1 and mpeg layer 2 for audio, although I don’t think that is what you want to know. I think you want me to go to the original film and check that right? It has been a while since I put the film into the computer…is there an easy way to locate the original avi?

Very strange. I found several other mpeg1 videos I produced using Vegas 4, and if I bring them into Vegas 4 they play fine. If I play them in windows media player they play fine, but when I open them in Vegas 7, they do the same thing….video fine but audio only plays for a second. ???

That’s exactly what I wanted to know. So you said:

    > The original film came from a digital camera. Into the computer as avi,

Which means you have AVI files using the MPEG 1 codec? That’s very strange. MPEG 1 files usually have an .MPG extension (in an MPEG wrapper). Try renaming the file from .AVI to .MPG and see if Vegas plays it.

Actually I think I confused you. The AVI from the camera, into the computer. Took that film, used Vegas 4 to edit it, then rendered it as an mpeg1 movie. When I bring the veg file created in Vegas 4, into Vegas 7, that’s when the sound plays for only a second, and the timeline does not show audio. Or, if I bring the completed mpeg 1 video I rendered in Vegas 4, into Vegas 7, the same thing happens. It shows up in the timeline, plays fine, except for the audio problem. Sorry for not being clear. I appreciate your trying to help.

    Yea, I’m still confused. 🙁

Let’s recap: You have AVI footage from the camera. You edited the AVI’s with Vegas 4. You rendered to MPEG1. If you open the original Vegas 4 project in Vegas 7 you can only hear a few seconds of audio. Doesn’t this original project have the original AVI files in it? and if so, what codec do they use? If not, then what does the Vegas 4 project have in it? If the MPEG1 files, then I can’t imagine why Vegas 7 can’t play an MPEG1 file.

I understand what you want now. Sorry for not understanding. I will open the vegas project from version 4 and check the codec from that film and let you know…this will take a few days since my monitor went out and I am getting another one in this weekend. I will get back to you as soon as it is up and going. Thanks for your patience.

John…sorry for the wait. Delivery problems with my Vegas editing computers monitor. I opened the original veg file created in vegas 4 and went to properties. It shows it as avi so I don’t understand why I can’t open the same project in Version 7 of Vegas. I also played around and found another project I did in Vegas 4, and it opened ok in version 7???? I will see if there is anything else I can figure out. If so I will get back to you. I really appreciate your help. Have a great week. Michael
