    Hi-
my mini dv tape is totally in sync, but DOES have some sound issues related to the orginal recording (shot on pd150, and a mic issue where sound drops out every 20 seconds or so for 3 seconds). When I capture this tape, either controlable or non-, I lose audio sync. I think it might have something to do with these production sound issues, but I can’t understand why if the tape plays back fine (ie in sync), capturing would somehow cause the clip to lose sync. Again, to reiterate, the tape playback is normal, but after capturing, it loses snyc (and I’m talking about a 2 minute clip losing 5 secs of sync). Any idears?

if you have access to a second camera or deck, the simplest solution might be to make a dub, then capture the dub into FCP.

I have this type of problem for a few years with FCP 4 and now with 5.
I will say that in 5 the losing sync is a little better.
I am capturing footage at DV25 either minidv or usually DVC-Pro.
What is happening is that after 10 minutes or so the audio starts to go out of sync, roughly 5 frames, then after another 10 minutes another 5 frames and so on. What I’ve been doing is just shifting the audio forward those 5 frames. Yes it can be a pain, but right now I have no other option.
    Any ideas out there?
I’m using a range of macs with different specs all with firewire or ATA drives.

Make sure your DV camera output is set for 16 bit sound, not 12 bit. I had this same problem and it worked for me.
