  • Losing sharpness going from AE to dvd

I am producing a 3 minute 16:9 (wide) promo video. I have a completed After Effects project, which looks great when rendered to quicktime and viewed on the computer. Sharp, clear, beautiful.

I need to have it as a looping dvd, for use at a trade show. To achieve that, I rendered a lossless Quicktime file from After Effects, which was more than 10 Gig. heavy. I then used that file in iDvd to create a dvd, but the quality is terrible – not sharp, and has artifacts, especially noticable when viewed on a 40″ plasma monitor.

    What am I doing wrong?

iDVD compressed your video to the MPEG-2 format, which is necessary for DVD. However, not all MPEG-2 compression is the same. I recommend you compress in Apple’s Compressor using one of the High Quality settings, then import that file into iDVD if you can. I use DVD Studio Pro, not iDVD by the way.

At any rate, this is a DVD authoring question. If you need more info, you should check out the DVD Authoring COW.

Thanks for your input, and I’ll check out the other forum. I’m going to try your method.
    Thanks again,
