  • Losing audio when editing multiclips

Posted by Scott Larson on July 1, 2010 at 4:27 am

    Hey everyone,

I am trying to edit a multiclip in FCP but I keep losing the audio. Here is my workflow:

Select a few clips in the browser, right click to make a multiclip.
Drag the multiclip into the viewer and play, no problem.
Drag the multiclip into the sequence and play, no problem.

At this point the viewer has both video and audio tabs above the video.
As soon as I change the sync to “open” in the canvas, the audio tabs disappear from the viewer and it wont play audio. It plays audio in the sequence from the canvas, but not the viewer. Even if I change the sync to off in the canvas, the viewer still wont play audio.

I have tried setting the active tracks to every possible combination of video and audio, but nothing helps.

If I drag the multiclip back into the viewer from the browser, the audio is there. It only disappears after I set the sync to Open.

    I am running FCP 6.0.6, Imac G5, OS 10.4.11, 2gb Ram, external 500gb drive, internal 1tb.

any help would be much appreciated,

    thanks

That behavior is normal. Don’t see a reason that this would be a problem either. After all, you can play the audio associated with a multiclip in the Canvas during the edit…

Thanks for your reply, but I think perhaps I didnt explain the problem correctly. I later realized this was actually happening to all clips, not just the multiclips. I was losing all audio from everything. But after I trashed all the preferences I was able to get everything to play correctly. Just a glitch somewhere I guess.
