My new Sony CX550V camcorder chunks all video into 2GB files. These video files lose the last half second of audio when imported into Vegas 8 and 9. I called sony support and they replied “known issue” wait for future release. The problem is I’m a wedding photographer/videographer and losing a half second 3 or 4 times during an hour wedding ceremony is not an option (ie vows). Is anyone else having this problem? Is there a workaround? Can I take AVCHD and somehow change it to MPEG for video editing? If I start and stop the camera I guess I would never hit the 2GB, but I often have to leave the camera running for an hour to get the ceremony (creating 3 or 4 2GB chunks). Any idea’s? I’m ready to send my new camera back (although the issue looks like it is in Vegas).

Did the camera come with any software like the Sony Motion Picture Browser? If the Vegas Pro 9.0d Device Explorer can’t join the files correctly, you should use the software that came with the camera.

If that doesn’t work, you can try combining the files from the camera yourself with the dos command:

    COPY /B 0000.MTS+0001.MTS+0002.MTS MOVIE.MTS

thanks John this worked for me. For big 2gb files this workaround is not a problem. I am using 8.1 BTW.

    thanks!
