  • Losing Attributes when flattening MultiCam TL

    Hi Everybody.

Short Question regarding DaVinci, when working with MultiCam Editing:

After finishing a MultiCam edit, when flattening the TimeLine back to individual clips,

all the re-sizing & re-positioning information applied to the MultiCam edits are lost.

Anybody figured out a way to avoid this?
I struggle with this since a long time, even wrote a post already 2 years ago on the COW, but nobody seemed to have a solution. Maybe the swarm intelligence is working better this time.

    Thank you.

Sorry Sacha, I don’t use the multicam function. The Blackmagic forum is probably better to answer this. I can’t imagine why you are having this problem. Where in the pipeline are you applying the resizing?

    Hi Michael,

apparently it is a known issue, that more professionals encountered with DVR:
Let’s say I have 3 Cameras, I line them up and created a MultiCam TL synced up from the three.

Then I drop this MultiCam Nest on a TL, where I then do my MultiCam editing, switching between the three Cams, causing an edit point each time I switch.
Now, after finish the editing, in this case, the director wanted certain Cuts to be resized and re-positioned: I applied those changed through the inspector to the MultiCam Nested Clip.
Then in the end when all is done, I flatten the TL back to single clips of the corresponding camera (1,2 or 3) -> consolidating the MultiCam TL.
After the consolidation, all the Scale and Position adjustments I did not the PreComp MultiCam Clip gets lost in the flattening.

    Hi Sascha,

I shoot theather plays with 5 Blackmagic cameras and I shoot raw. It helps me a lot because lights are changing all the time so in post I can do it perfectly. However, when I edit multicam clip, I do not have acces to camera raw settings. After I flatten the multicam clip, I have again acces to camera raw settings – exposure, wb, etc.

This is such a problem and a big one, when I edit ( doing the cuts) I am also do reframing, stabilising where is needed and with flattening all that is lost. I need to do again which is so non productive as a business.

Did you find any solution by now?

    Thank you

    Hi Radu,

Unfortunately not. And it’s really bothering me….Having right now a 4 Camera MultiCam edit of a show with 500 Cuts.
The only way I do it now: after finishing the edit, I duplicate the entire MultiCam edit of Video Track V1 to a second Video Track V2.
Then I flatten all the clips in V2 and then – clip by clip – I copy/paste attributes of V1 to V2.
This takes me easily 1-1,5 hours for this 65min show.
But still the fastest method so far.

    Best,

    Sascha
