  • Looping Rotation with the Time node

Posted by Ryan Paterson on January 14, 2014 at 8:58 pm

I thought if I fed the “Frame” output into the “Rotation” input of an object and did an animation that was 359 frames long, I would naturally get a loop. However when I look at the results, the Time module is outputting 1, but the rotation of my object is 57.296 °

I’m assuming that this is some Radians/Degrees stuff happening under the hood. Is there a way to get a 1:1 relationship between these numbers? Also if anyone has any info on how C4D actually handles rotation I’d love to know more

yes Radians/Degrees – use the Calculate/Degree node (set to Radians To Degree) in-between your Time node Frame output and the object’s rotation port

Right, that works thanks. Except I had to set to “Degrees To Radians” not the other way around. I guess it accepts a Radian but then outputs a degree to the user in the UI.

sorry, that’s right, default input into rotation ports is Radians – brain mal

Is there a way to change the default input data types or are they locked?

rotation has always been radians – it’s easier with certain things, that’s why the degree node exists so we don’t have to do the math ourselves with Math nodes

I just meant in general not necessarily for rotation. no idea why I would even want to change the default unit… just wondering if it’s possible
