  • Looping Fog/Smoke (Looking for Beginner Advice) (Trapcode knowledge may help)

    Hello All..
I’m looking to create a 3 to 4 second fog, or smoke effect loop for the bottom of a webpage i’m making.
An example of this is here: https://www.polarisindustries.com/en-us/Snowmobiles/
I can create some smoke with Trapcode Particle (I think it’s called) or Fog Factory. I can create a new comp. say for 4 seconds, but I have now idea how to loop it. Particle seems to create the particles from nothing at the beginning so if I were to just export the movie and loop it, It recreates all the pixels from , say 1 or 2 at a time from the emitter everytime the loop restarts. (I hope this makes some sense)

I see looping with expressions, exporting the movie and looping it, time re-mapping etc. I’m lost as to where to start.

When I am though with my creations in AE, I export them as .SWF, open them in Macromedia Flash, build preloaders etc, then export them. So if I have a movie that does not loop, I have attempted to open it in Flash and try to loop it, but it allways jumps and is not seemless. I presume without originally creating the footage in AE as a seemless loop, i’ll never loop smoothly.

    Thanks for any advice. 🙂

Try using After Effects Fractal Noise plugin with “Dynamic Twist” as the setting under “Fractal Type”. If you keyframe the “Evolution” variable to be the same at the beginning and end of your clip then it will loop seamlessly.

As for making non-looping abstract footage loop, you can try a long crossfade that spans the duration of your footage and connects the head to the tail.
