Activity Forums Adobe After Effects Expressions Loop at Intervals

  • Posted by Justin Vaillancourt on May 7, 2009 at 3:57 pm

Hi, is there an expression or combination of that will allow me to loop an animation, but at specific intervals?

Example – I have a mask animating from left to right on the screen, I would like that mask to go from left to right and hold, then loop and replay the animation every 5 seconds and 10 frames. I know I could just keyframe it, but with hundreds of layers, that would make thousands of keyframes in the comp.

    Thanks in advance!

    If I understand what you’re asking…

Use the loopOut method with the cycle parameter? This will loop an animation through the specified set of keyframes. Just include two identical keyframes at the end of the segment to be looped.

My experience has been that to get it to loop seamlessly, you need to add a copy of your first keyframe one frame after your last keyframe.
