A friend of mine made a short film, but due to the budget and the availability of his actor, he was unable to get a shot he wanted. The shot in question is an underwater point of view shot of someone looking up through the water at another person standing on the edge of a dock. He has the low angle shot, just not underwater. I tried using psunami (its been years since I touched it) but I haven’t been able to get anything remotely realistic. It looks like someone projecting colored streaks over the subject. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, should I precomp a psunami layer and use that as a displacement map adjustment layer over my footage, or should I make a displacement map for the psunami layer?

Yeah Precomp the psunami, and use that as displacement for your vid layer.

try different modes for the psunami over the video,
I usually make a duplicate of displacements and time shift or scale them
for the different effects to get a little more “realism” in how the layers play together.

I would use the “blur effect that references layers”
    (can’t look rendering 🙂
to add a little more “stuff” to the effect,
    and definitely color correction, etc.

    good luck!

Thank you very much for your help. The psunami displacement layers did the trick. 🙂
