    Hi guys

I have been a pc person all my life having taught myself premiere 5, many years ago and buying a Canopus DVRaptor. A few years later, i upgraded to a Matrox XTreme. Both of these served me well, creating corportate videos and Weddings.

Having briefly left that industry for a few years to concentrate on other things, i have now come back to it with having experience with Macs.

Therefore, in the next 6 months, i will be purchasing a Mac Pro with Final Cut to edit and work with captured HDV material.

Im trying to find ideas of what to buy, from people in the same line of work. Not yet knowing the full ins and outs of HDV, i would like to try and work with it natively and in realtime when editing. My final output will always be to DVD.

Is there a place on the internet that can suggest what to buy when setting up an edit suite (albeit small one), even if it is a business.

Any advice or pointing in the right direction will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Chris

Buy the fastest machine you can… load it with 8 gigs of RAM (I have a total of 9 gigs in my 8 core tower, and it seems to be enough to run several apps at the same time, compress, render et all at one time too). Add to that the internal drives for media storage, Buy the upgraded display card (about 200 bucks more) – Color and Motion will benefit from this…and you should be good to go Mac/wise.

Then look at a capture card (AJA’s would be my choice) or even an Io HD (best choice for HDV land I think) or Matrox MXO so you can monitor your HDV properly. Can’t monitor HDV thru a camera like you can with DV… You’ll want a couple of 23’s or a 23 with a 30″ monitor. The 23″ could be used with the Matrox to display full screen “close enough” correct color so you can color correct.
