Looking to improve my Audio Workflow: Audition CC + Sound Dampeners
Hello Everyone
I am a photographer expanding into broadcast video. Here is some of my gear:
• Very powerful PC, CS5, 5 HD, 32GB RAM, 12 processors
• Canon XF300 Camera, NTG2, Senheiser Lavalier, Booms
• Various studio lightsIn short, I think I am reasonably well equipped.
Here are my questions:
1. Audio Software- CC Audition
Audio could use some improvement… I need to finish the audio:
Is Audition CC worth the investment? If it is, will I need to update my entire Creative Suite?I like Audition as it integrates into the Adobe Creative Suite, but I don’t want to add on the expense of an entire update just for one program…CS5.5 is pretty good.
I also hear Audition CC sucks.2. Sound Dampeners
My Studio is a bit “echoey”. Should I invest in sound dampeners for the entire place or can I purchase less of them and hang them in strategic locations for a targeted effect?julesdesign

If you are familiar with the Adobe workflow Audition will probably do okay for you. However, Pro Tools is the de facto standard for audio post work (probably more than you want to spend). The big issue is, really, the compatibility of many standard audio post plug-ins with Audition. I have no experience with Audition, so I don’t really know. I’m sure someone here https://forums.creativecow.net/adobeaudition can answer that question for you.
The type of room treatment (not “dampeners”) that you need will be very dependent upon your room; it may only cost you a couple of hundred, but may cost a couple of thousand or more – there’s just no way for us to know since we haven’t seen/heard the room. You can start here:

Your speakers are also going to make a huge difference, so plan on some really nice speakers if you are going to dive into this seriously, and plan on spending A LOT if you are planning on doing surround.
Oh, you should probably consider a solid audio interface as well. If you’re going to get into this you may as well do it right.
