Looking Streched Vertically…
I have some interview footage shot with the panasonic which looks like it was filmed in 4×3 fullscreen mode (it’s showing up full screen in the camera viewfinder)… but the video looks like it’s streched vertically slightly. It is very subtle… but the dimensions seem slightly off… esp. when looking at some of the other footage which was shot in Anamorphic 16×9…
Has anyone come across this problem before or aware of an issue with the settings in the camera or in FCP which might cause this???

Might have been shot in Squeeze mode, or with the anamorphic adapter.
Try changing the clip’s pixel aspect ratio to 1.2:1 and see if you prefer the look; if so, edit it as if it was 16×9 footage (because it is).

It was not shot with anamorphic. It displays in the camcorders viewfinder fullscreen where as the other stuff shot- which was shot 16×9 squeeze- displays in the viewfinder with the black bars and correct 16×9 aspect ratio when I capture.
Still the stuff that is fullscreen looks streched verically in the camcorder viewfinder and on my ntsc preview monitor….BUT it displays correctly with the black bars in the capture window in FCP. Then after I capture it and lay it on the timeline… it goes back to the streched vertical look… no black bars?????
I don’t have a clue so far…

I think you’re confusing “letterbox” mode with “squeeze” mode. Letterbox mode records a normal-looking image for a 4:3 TV, with black bars on it. Squeeze mode records a vertically-stretched image, which will only look proper once it’s displayed on a widescreen television. Sounds like you’ve got the two modes mixed in your footage.

Ok this is very weird but I just figured it out… I went into the browser and looked at the settings under the column list for the clips… For some reason… even though I was capturing the clips with anamorphic on and with the sequence settings at with anamorphic checked… in the column list Anamorphic WAS UNCHECKED in the column… I put a check mark beside anamorphic and the clip displays properly… strange that I would have to go in and manually check the column… Thanks for the advice!!
