  • Looking for Varicam frame grabs

I’m writing an article for High Definition Magazine about an optical block characteristic that I’ve seen on Viper f900 f950 and 950 750 cameras.
I’m interested in seeing frame grabs from lenses below 9mm on Varicam.
No names no packdrill, nothing will be printed, I am looking for (very slight) colour fringing on left hand side only on wide lenses.
You’d probably think it was normal degree of lens abberation.
I’ve seen it when using Fuji Super CIne, Zeiss and Canons so don’t be proud.

email to me with focal lenght and if it is zoom or prime no other details necessary.

    cheers

So are you saying you’re trying to prove that Varicam displays color fringing on the left side at anything below 9mm or just all HD cameras do ?

Never mind. I just read the page on your web site “Points regarding the F900 vs Varicam.”

This isn’t an article you’re not a varicam fan by any stretch. Should have known by the don’t be proud garbage

I’m saying Sony HD cameras (well about 15 different ones 5 models we’ve used over the years) and two Vipers I’ve used have it, regardless of lens.
It is quite subtle but is an issue with keying, but not many use wider lenses for bluescreen.
Would be good to see if Panny cameras have it or not.
Most test charts and head shot tests are shot on longer focal length so there are fewer frame grabs shot with wide lenses about.

In respect of your comments about not being a fan of Varicam, I am also not a fan of Sony either.
I have a couple of pages of f900 faults and on my website even though I own a f900!
And I’m publishing grabs from my f900 pointing out the faults. Go figure.

I am not a fan of any HD kit:) better to point out the compromises and let the client take responsibility than being a fan.
The general idea is that we should communicate faults and issues across the board, wouldn’t it be nice to learn a little more about prism issues? maybe the Varicam and 400 don’t have it!
